AccelerateIP and VIATEC:

Determining and managing your intellectual property (IP) is an important element of your corporate strategy. AccelerateIP is a new initiative that supports hundreds of innovative startups in BC, Yukon, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories to identify and implement their IP strategies and intellectual assets.

As an AccelerateIP delivery partner, VIATEC provides enhanced access to education, skills development, and financial support for protecting, managing and leveraging your intellectual property.

AccelerateIP is an initiative led by New Ventures BC and prime collaborator Innovate BC.

Stream 2 Strategy: Mentorship

VIATEC provides access to eight hours of personalized 1:1 mentorship tailored to your intellectual property (IP) strategy within a business context. 

Our VIATEC mentors will guide you through the nuances of IP, providing insights and perspectives that align with your specific business needs.

This option is ideal if you're not quite ready to engage with a legal service provider or if you're still refining how IP aligns with your overall business strategy.

Our mentors are here to assist you in shaping your IP strategy from a business standpoint. While they offer valuable guidance, please be aware that they do not provide legal advice.

Eligibility

All ventures that meet basic eligibility requirements are eligible to register or apply.

Eligible activities include (but are not limited to):

  • Reviewing commercialization strategy needs
  • Assessing an IP strategy within your business’ context
  • Helping you hire or work with a legal service provider
  • Preparing for your meeting with a legal service provider

How to apply

To apply, you’ll need to register on the application portal, answer some IP assessment questions, and let them know that you’re working or would like to work with VIATEC.

Stream 2 Strategy: Legal Support for Advancing Your IP

Fast-Track Your Intellectual Property (IP) Development with VIATEC!

If you're looking to enhance your IP strategy with expert legal support, VIATEC’s Stream 2 Strategy is your go-to resource. 

Apply for up to $25,000 in financial assistance to cover costs with a legal service provider.

Co-Investment Breakdown:

  • Standard Co-investment: 25% (accelerateIP covers 75%)
  • For Majority-Indigenous Owned Startups: 10% (accelerateIP covers 90%)

Approval is based on the legal service provider's quote.

Eligibility:

 

Covered Activities:

Including but not limited to IP audits, strategy development, legal document preparation (NDAs, IP agreements, etc.), infringement searches, IP commercialization analysis, and trademark strategies.

Application Process:

  • Register on the VIATEC application portal.
  • Complete IP assessment questions.
  • Indicate any existing mentorship or accelerator affiliations.
  • Submit a quote from your legal service provider.

Note: Additional mentorship or education may be recommended before reapplying if your company is not yet ready.

Applications:

Accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis for timely support.
